Simple ideas that can help people at the moment

Well how are you all doing?

We all say “what a day that was” and the next one comes along.  Know that we’re praying for each of you at this time and praying for your communities.

Around the country there’s been some wonderfully creative concepts and ideas for caring your neighbours breaking out and we thought we might share a few to spark your ideas.

Asking Questions

One of the ways we’ve been using social media this week is to ask what you’re doing to respond.  Here’s a few of the replies…

How have you been using Digital communications?

Pauline said

“Maranatha Yoga in Cumbria. Created a what’s app group of 110 people and posting two 5 min videos a week. Also posting once a week on Cumbria Fresh Expressions FB page. Also going monthly fb live sessions on their page.”

While Naomi said:

“I have set up a new Facebook group for our church and have been posting prayers etc and recorded talks. I did wonder about doing these live but I think most people are happy to watch them at their own time/pace anyway. Lots of people not on Facebook so have had to also use usual phonecall prayer chain too.”

Alongside all the churches who’ve live streamed services, we’ve seen pioneers run virtual Dance Music Parties, virtual dinner parties and trips to a virtual pub.  Scores of you have been trying to gather people together to provide community in the midst of isolation.

We liked Ian’s comment today who asked us to remember to be inclusive in these gatherings and make sure everyone has the chance to connect.

How have you been caring your communities?

Many people have shared how they’ve joined in with national initiatives like Covid-19 Mutual Aid.  These guys are wonderful, sharing principles of local organising and getting news and help out on the ground quickly and efficiently.  Wh not get involved?

We’ve heard stories of street pop-up foodbanks, WhatsApp groups to make sure everyone on a street is connected and many others.

Why not share with us what you’re doing.

How have you been looking after your wellbeing?

Caring for ourselves at this time will be vital so we can enable each other and support each other.

We loved Oasis Trust’s helpful guide for personal self-care at this time.
